Norlington Gate Farmhouse, Ringmer, is a Grade II listed building located within the South Downs National Park. This project involved the sensitive internal conversion of an existing ground floor study into a self-contained granny annexe, providing a bedroom, living space and shower room for extended family use.

The design approach focused on minimal intervention, retaining and respecting the historic fabric while improving usability, spatial quality and thermal performance. Key works included raising the internal ceiling, introducing breathable build-ups using traditional and upgraded materials including woodfibre insulation and lime plaster, replacing an existing window with bespoke timber French doors, and upgrading two further windows like for like to improve thermal performance.

Studio Yoell led the project from the outset, preparing and managing the full planning and Listed Building Consent application, followed by the technical design and Building Regulations package. Studio Yoell also managed the construction phase, coordinating trades and delivering a carefully detailed, buildable solution that meets both heritage and modern performance requirements. The project was developed in close collaboration with the client, with a clear focus on maintaining quality while working carefully within budget.
