Design philosophy.

Working with considered geometry and spatial clarity, material and structure define how a space feels and performs. Materials are carefully selected for their quality and detailed with precision. Design is guided by a clear process, structural rationality and buildability. Only what is necessary.

Responsible Design.

Every project is developed through open dialogue with the client. Materials are assessed honestly for their cost, performance, limitations, health and environmental impact. Within the available budget, informed decisions create durable spaces that work for their occupants and the environment.

Daniel Yoell is the Founding Director of Studio Yoell, an architectural designer based in Lewes and Brighton & Hove, working across Sussex and London. He studied at the Royal College of Art, graduating with an MArch in Architecture, following a First Class degree in Interior Architecture from the University of Brighton.

With over 18 years' experience in construction, including as a carpenter, joiner and furniture maker, Daniel's work is shaped by a practical understanding of materials, construction and making. This experience forms the basis of Studio Yoell's design approach, where architecture is developed through an understanding of how buildings are put together, with careful consideration given to structure, detailing, buildability and cost from the outset.

Working across residential, commercial and creative projects, including new homes, retrofit and renovation, artist studios, workshops, commercial spaces, bespoke interiors and furniture, Daniel applies the same design principles regardless of scale or project type. Every project begins by understanding how it will be built. Materials, construction and craftsmanship are treated as an integral part of the design process rather than something resolved later. The aim is to create architecture that is simple, well considered and robust, where quality comes from careful coordination, proportion, refinement and honest use of materials, not unnecessary complexity.

Alongside practice, Daniel teaches part-time at the University of Brighton, focusing on material selection, making and construction, design process and the circular economy. His teaching encourages students to explore how materials, construction methods and making influence design thinking, spatial quality and long-term performance, with a particular interest in bio-based materials and low-carbon construction.
